Writing for Colostomy UK’s ‘Tidings’ magazine
I wrote this piece back in September, in the lead-up to my robotic assisted proctectomy and the removal of my rectum. My hope is that it will offer support to other ostomates, (people living with a stoma). Roughly 20% of colostomy patients may face rectum removal.
While the number of stomas resulting from severe childbirth injuries is relatively small compared to those created for other medical conditions, these cases highlight the traumatic and long lasting impact such injuries have.
By sharing my journey, I aim to highlight the challenges that linger long after a birth injury, the resilience required to navigate life and how looking ahead continues to guide me forwards.
