COLOSTOMUMMY

Colostomummy

I created Colostomummy after my most recent surgery in 2019 which was a colostomy

I wanted a platform to elevate, educate and promote issues that affect Women’s Health related to severe childbirth injuries like OASI (Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury), pelvic floor dysfunction and stomas.

These injuries impact on all areas of life and are both physically and mentally challenging to live with. Having access to a support network is vital for these injured women.

My story

How OASI affected me

In 1998, I was 22 years old when I was induced and I experienced a traumatic birth delivering a large baby.  I was diagnosed and treated for 2nd degree perineal and vaginal tears. I know now I most likely sustained a 3rd degree tear that was missed.

Speaking

The long-term consequences of OASI and severe childbirth injuries are not widely discussed

As a Speaker I share my personal experiences to highlight these topics and give insight into what life is like with a stoma and as an ostomate. I also hope to encourage and inspire other ostomates.

Charity work

Advocate and Trustee for the MASIC Foundation

Through my charity work as both an Advocate and Trustee for the MASIC Foundation, I hope to make a difference to those affected. I regularly mentor women struggling with incontinence including those facing life-changing stoma surgery as a result of these injuries.
