MASIC Webinar: OASI (Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries) and Disability: Employment, Rights and Assessment sponsored by Leigh Day

I was delighted to co-chair this event with MASIC Advocate Sarah Embleton where MASIC explores and discusses your rights as an employee and how to advocate for yourself after a birth injury. We had an excellent line up of speakers for this webinar which was really well received and generated great discussion on this complex topic.
A big thank you to Leigh Day for supporting MASIC by sponsoring this event.

Australian Adventure

Mid-February marked the start of an epic Australian adventure to visit family. A journey I had wanted do for many years but it it was unrealistic pre-stoma surgery. I have travelled on much shorter journeys to Europe but a trip of this length and duration required much more consideration and planning.

Anyone who wears a stoma bag will appreciate how important having the right fit of stoma bag is. In preparation I sent out stoma supplies to my family’s address well in advance of my trip, as the weight to carry these items was considerable and wouldn’t leave room in our luggage for much else.

However, the type of stoma bag I was using daily had changed from a flat one piece bag to a convex closed bag, since sending these supplies out. I carried the convex bags in my hand luggage but with limited space I realised I was going to be short of the right type of stoma bags.

I was extremely grateful to Dansac UK and Dansac Melbourne for organising some stoma supplies to be sent to my family’s address so I could continue enjoying my adventure without worrying about having leaks from not having the right type of stoma bag. Happy stoma, happy life 😃
